Removing Failed LUN from SecurePath

Hi,

We've unpresented a LUN from an hpUX11i server and deleted it from the EVA5000, but in SecurePath Manger on the HPUX server, the path is showing as failed.

Is there anyway we can remove this.

We have tried spmgr delete LUNWWID but it produces the following error:

Error: Device mounted or otherwise busy.

The other bizarre thing is that when we run subsequent Business Copy Snap jobs, one of them will eventully ust the previously failed path and it will show as claimed again. We are still unable to delete the LUN from SecurePath.

Is it possible to remove the entry for this LUN from SecurePath without rebooting?

Thanks,
Richard.

Hi Richard,
Just issue "spmgr delete cxxtxxdxx" and not WWWLUN_ID.

Re: Removing Failed LUN from SecurePath

Hi Richard,

Removing(unpresenting) a LUN from a host with Securepath causes lot of problems if you do not follow the proper procedure.

Probably when you reboot this system your device files may get changed. Therefore please refer to the Securepath admin document and perform this activity.

Re: Removing Failed LUN from SecurePath

Hi,
Here are the links to the Secure Path manuals:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual〈=en&cc=us&docIndexId=179111&taskId=101&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=471465

But a short explanation is that you have to delete the LUN with Secure path before unpresent in the EVA.
Take a look at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00248499/c00248499.pdf
and to: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00248530/c00248530.pdf

Good luck,

Re: Removing Failed LUN from SecurePath

In my experience no. A reboot is required to clean up what you have created. You should always delete from SP first with HPUX, however depending on you version of SP, delay ioscan and insf -e until after the unpresenting in command view. I dont recall the version od SP where you could successfully run ioscan and insf -e after the deletion like the sspmgr delete command references, but just wait as a rule of thumb until the unpresentation and you should be good.
