replace failed disk in san

i have to replace a failed disk in the san.
what are the steps to perform ?

the failed disk is not in any volume group.

i have to add the new one to the existing volume group.

This question is far far away from being clear!

SAN is a network - disks are usually in an array or JBOD.

Some arrays have special procedures regarding disk replacements.

Nobody can advise you anything other than "read the appropriate documentation" based on the information you provided - sorry.

Then is not just a JBOD, the MSA1000 has RAID controllers and presents logical units not disks to the hosts. If the disk is part of a RAID you just have to replace it, the MSA1000 controllers will rebuild the RAID. The OS will not notice anything.
