replacing msa chassis - effect on secure path

If I had to replace the chassis of an MSA1000, what effect would this have on Secure Path??

Would I have to reconfig the whole thing??

Since the WWN being used comes from the ID found behind drive 12, what happens.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: replacing msa chassis - effect on secure path

The main thing that could (but not necessarily) be affected is zoning. If you do zoning at the switch via WWN, then this uses the ID behind drive 12. In that case, once the new/updated chassis was brought online, the switch would not recognize the new ID and your zoning wouldn't work. All you would have to do is change the WWN at the switch to the new one.

If you are doing port zoning at the switch, then it would not affect you at all, as port zoning does not use the drive 12/chassis ID at all.

This also assumes the drives have disk signatures and those drives would go into the new MSA1000, as well as the old MSA Controllers. So assuming you just swap the chassis, and move the origianl drives and controllers, then the only thing you would potentially have to worry about is zoning. SecurePath would not be affected at all.

Doug

Re: replacing msa chassis - effect on secure path

Secure Path is a host application, configured at the host level.

If you don't change any of the LUN's, Host names, ip adr's, DNS entries and so forth, you should be alright.

The SP profile will continue to reflect the hosts and their associated LUN's.

Tell med Doug what's the issue with the WWN ID behind drive 12 ?

Never heard about it, do you have any documentation on this?
