San Boot on EVA 3000 W/ DL580 G4 and Emulex HBA pciâ x adapter (FC2142 (A8002A) {Lpe1150})

1.The boot (On the Emulex HBA card) BIOS is not loaded during boot, unless the server has been turned off and on. (Warm-boot will bypass HBA BIOS)

2.We can not install Windows Server 2003 R2 (x86 or x64), on a boot drive
in Eva 3000. Windows installer reports â Setup did not find any hard disk drivesâ .

Hi,

for installing Windows, you need the floppy disk (or USB Drive) with the Boot From SAN Driver

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=1143949〈=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=1809835&taskId=135

Press F6 when Setup is starting and add this driver.

I also find it strange that the HBA reports itself as an A8002A on cold boot, but as an Emulex LPe1150 on warm boot. Maybe a BIOS update on the HBA would help (1.71a0 seems to be the latest, also available from the link above)

Thank you for pointing out the different name in BIOS.

1. For some reason the boot driver diskette (Boot From SAN HBA Drivers 7-1.11x1 Storport 8 Aug 2006) from the HP Web page. (same link you sent) do not work.

2. The firmware on same HP web page, state the following fw as latest:
(Firmware FC2142 HBA FW: 2.50a2 Bios: 1.70a3 22 Sep 2005), witch is the on in use.

3. Everything works fine with a Emulex FCA2101 (LP950) PCI adapter.

4. The server now use new Bios. (P59 09/08/2006)

Hi,

under that link, after selecting the OS, the first download in the list is "Universal Boot" version 1.71a0
In the Readme from this file, the first entry for the fix-list is:

Problems Fixed, Features added or Other Updates Since 1.70A3:

1. Adjust the eVPD HBA model number display alignment on banner display and BIOS
configuration utility menu. (CR20482)

So that explains the BIOS messages. There are 13 other fixes listed here, I'm not sure if your problem is one of them.
You will need a utility to update the BIOS, it's not included in this download (either LP6DUTIL from a DOS boot disk or elxcfg if Windows is installed)

Thank you again for point out. However:!

With new bios [09/08/2006] in server, the two problems seem resolved.

Install with windows in progress. However; absolute need to use the driver diskette (F6).
{No native driver support for the FC2142 in Windows server 2003 R2}
