SAN Maintenance questions
I need to create a project plan to perform maintenance on SANs that 4 of our clients use. All are MSA1000,
Number 1: Is older and does not have any redundant hardware in it. It has 5 serves connect that boot from the SAN.
Number 2: Is newer with SAN with HA, the issue here is in Costa Rica, so I need to have my ducks in row before my boss goes down to perform the maintenance there.
Number 3: Is newer SAN with HA (local)
Number 4: Is newer SAN with HA (local)
My biggest issue is I'm not well versed in SANs, so I need to know the steps of what to patch or update to ensure you don't lose connective with the SAN during this, or lost it for good, with patch levels that do not play well together.
I was thinking this order:
System Updates
Upgrade iLO
Upgrade the OS (Windows Server 2003)
Upgrade the Server firmware
Update Driver (all devices)
Update Device Firmware (all devices)
Update HBA Drivers
Update HBA Firmware
Not sure where to start on the SAN and the Switch
Any help I can get would be great.
