SAN - Serverless backup
This is our first experience with storage area network configuration.
Hardware: SAN Switch 2/16 EL Compaq
Software: Legato Networker 7.0 for Windows
Tape Library: Compaq MSL5026 S2 SDLT with embedded E1200 storage router
External Storage: MAS1000
Is it possible to configure serverless backup with our system
please see attachment for details
Pleade advise
regards,
Ario

Re: SAN - Serverless backup
I am not sure I am correct (I am not an NetWorker expert) but as I understand you need the Legato Celestra product for serverless backups with NetWorker.

Re: SAN - Serverless backup
You will need a router or other device on the SAN that supports the Extended Copy command. The M2402 router supports that protocol.
Seeing that you have an MSA1000 it probably wont be worth the hassle. When you get into larger SAN implementations (we have over 50 Terabytes) then it's worth looking in to.. menahwile better to use backups over IP or straight Lan free backups.

Re: SAN - Serverless backup
The e1200 router that's in the MSL library does support the extended copy command.

Re: SAN - Serverless backup
I worked on EMC TIme finder with Veritas/EDM products. These products are working fine for serverless backup.
