SAN storage Units

SAN storage Units

My scenario is this.
RA8000 DRM setup
Initiator units d0-d7 all belonging to a W2k cluster
Remote copy sets on all units
I need to add another unit bringing the total units more then 8 LUN's
I need to enable large LUN's on the W2K cluster for this to work. The problem is that I need to shift D0 to D8 to free up D0 to guard against a reservation conflict. The higher numbered LUN's will be unavalable if I don't do this.
Keeping in mind that this is a SQL cluster.

Any ideas / suggestions

Re: SAN storage Units

What version ACS are you running on the HSG80 controllers. We do not use Large LUNS since we've upgraded to 8.6 -8 and/or 8.7.

Support software 8.7 or 8.6B.

Our config is:

W2K Advanced Server
SP2 or 3
ACS 8.6 patched to 8 or 8.7.
Support software: 8.7
Secure Path: either 4.0 or 3 with sp1

Running on 8.5-P but in the process of upgrading the ACS

Re: SAN storage Units

OK. If you are running ACS 8.5 then you must install Large LUNs. Also, set up the HSG80 to MultiBus failover and SCSI Mode 3. SCSI mode 3 automatillcaly resrves LUN 0 for the CCL: Command Console LUN. MBF should allow you to use LUNs from 0 through 199 through all ports of your controllers. You shouldn't have to worry about moving LUNs around at that point.

Re: SAN storage Units

Also, Win2K SP2 and greater should not have the limitation of only 8 presented LUNs

Re: SAN storage Units

A clarification of previous statement:
MBF allows you to number LUNs from between 0 through 199. However, the controller only allows access to 128 LUNs.

Also, natively there is not a LUN limitation per say for W2K. The only thing the Large LUN utility does is change a registry entry. Prior to the 8.7 and 8.6B Support Software, Large Luns was a separate utility. Currently, Large LUNs is built in to the support software. However as per the current support matrix, you must be running SP2 (preferably SP3) in order to use SS 8.7 and Secure Path 4.0, etc.
