SAN switch & access via serial port

Hi!

Here's a newbie question:
We have a HP StorageWorks SAN switch 2/8-el which we would to access via its serial port. However, no matter which term. settings I try, it's not giving any response...

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Evert

Re: SAN switch & access via serial port

I always forget if the default is 'straight' or 'crossed', but the SANswitches have it just the opposite way. Your switch should have come with a serial cable. The speed is 9600, 8bit, no parity. Good luck!

Re: SAN switch & access via serial port

So I would need to use a null-modem cable, instead of a standard serial one?

Re: SAN switch & access via serial port

Try connecting to the serial port and changing the speed of the connection till you get a response.
Other thing that you can use if you know what is the switch's IP address, is connect through telnet.
If you need information on that, let me know

Re: SAN switch & access via serial port

Evert,
I have talked to a colleague and he says that you need a 'standard serial'
(a straight) one, not a null-modem cable.
