scanmaster run disables network access
Hi,
We recently setup two HP-UX boxes connected to a SAN ( eva3K ) for a production system.
After my local contact person, ran ScanMaster, we could not connect to the unix machines anymore.
Only after a reboot from the console, network access was re-enabled.
Are there any problems know like this or, probably, are we doing something in the wrong way ?
Regards,
Franky

Re: scanmaster run disables network access
What do you mean by you cannot connect to the unix?
You cannot logon to the system or you cannot even connect to the login prompt?
Do you have account lockout configuration?

Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: scanmaster run disables network access
Hi Ivan,
We could not connect to it with telnet ... ping didn't respond ..
The only thing that we could do, is connecting to the maintenance processor. We noticed from there, after log on to the console, that all processes were intact. From there we initiated a ' shutdown -r now ' as root.
We have a second machine next to it on the same segment. From this 2nd one, and before we rebooted the first machine, we could resolve the hostname of the 1st one with the problem, but we could not ping or telnet it.
The 1st machine came up after the reboot and after that, we similated the situation on that 2nd unix : running scanmaster. The same result. Now this machine was not available for the network anymore, untill we rebooted it.
Now, I'm not that familiar with HP-UX : if the question is still relevant, what do you mean with ' account lockout configuration ' ?
Regards,
Franky

Re: scanmaster run disables network access
Account lockout is when the user enters the password wrong a specific number of times, the account is locked and cannot logon to the system. But this is not your case because you cannot ping the machine.
The only thing that I know that may cause this is if you have an IDS/Firewall in or in front of the server, and is thinking that scanmaster is trying to do an attack and blocking the access.
When the network stop working at the server, can you please run netstat -ni, ping from the server to another device, and ifconfig -a two or tree times, to verify the packets and status of the network?
Plase attach the results, I want to know if the network adapter is still working, of if you filled the TCP/IP network stack.
