Secure Path ## Load Balance

Hi, I'm having some problems to activate load balance on secure path 4.0c. I have an EVA3000 and 2 clusters. 1 cluster linux (RedHat As 2.1) and 1 cluster windows 2003, both using proliant DL380 G3. Under linux, load balance works fine. In W2K3 I added the registry key and tryed the command (spmgr set -b on). It doesn't return any error. But when I use the command to display status (spmgr display) it shows "load balance=off". any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

I am assuming that you have tried this procedure from the manual....

Enable dynamic Load Balancing as follows:
1. Double click on the following files:
- For EVA and HSG80 arrays, double click the following file:
Program Files\Compaq\SecurePath\spdriver\w2k\sppr_on.reg

2. Respond to the prompts and reboot the server so that this new registry parameter
becomes effective.

3. Enable Load Balancing from Secure Path Manager.

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

Yes, that's how I added the registry key.

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

As far as I know Load balencing can not be enabled for clustered disks in Windows2xxx. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks,

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

Secre Path load balancing is disabled by default. I think it is now safe in _some_ clustered environments.

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

yes, it's disabled by default, but I think that was the function of secure path. provide load balance and failover of HBAs in a safe way.

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

If I recall correctly it is disabled by default, because there are/were issues with SCSI device reservations in certain cluster environments. If using standard cabling you would do load balancing between two different fibre channel adapter and that means two different initiators accessing the same logical disk on the storage array.

Re: Secure Path ## Load Balance

Hi,

Dynamic Load Balancing is not supported in clustered environment if you are running Windows server 2003 and EVA3000/5000.

It is supported in Windows 2000.

See release notes for a complete support matrix for MSCS.

Hi averybodi.

My question is:

In a W2K3 MSCS envieroment with a MSA1000 and 2 HBA every Node, is load balancing supported?

It is not possible.
