Secure Path Manager

I have a 2 node DL380 cluster with Dual HBA, MSA1500, secure path 4.0c workgroups and Dual switches. Whenever I run secure path manager (v4.0cSP2) I cannot see any of the attached devices only the hosts that I entered?

Any ideas why not or even if I am supposed to be able to see the LUNS etc..

Thanks in advance

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi,

some things to check:
Have you entered the hostname of the SecurePath manager server in the clients list in SecurePath on each node? (SecurePathCfg) Is the password set the same on both nodes and in the SPM profile?
In the profile of SecurePath Manager, have you entered the hosts in the format HOSTNAME:CLUSTERNAME ?
When you click on a node, does a storage system show up in the left-hand pane of SPM?

Can you post a screenshot?

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi,

The Password is set the same for the profile and the nodes, Yes I have setup the nodes as Hostname:clustername, but nothing is shown under the node (see SS)

Thanks

Re: Secure Path Manager

For reference if I type spmgr display from the command line, it returns a blank.

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi,

that looks strange. It displays four servers. But you say you have a 2-node cluster. And the left pane also displays servers. Never seen that before. It should show the WWN of the storage system with a plus symbol beside it.
I assume you have also installed SP2 for SecurePath for Workgroups on each cluster node.

Do your nodes see their disks OK? What devices are in Device Manager (under Disk drives and under SCSI/RAID Controllers)?

Thanks and regards,

Re: Secure Path Manager

Sorry Stephen,

It is a 4-node cluster (mistyped message)

The nodes all see the disks okay.

I do have sp2 installed on the nodes.

See SS of disks under device mgr.

Re: Secure Path Manager

I also see a duplicate set of disks under disk manager all marked unreadable.

Re: Secure Path Manager

Aha, there's your problem. The disks should not be recognised as MSA1000 Volume SCSI Disk Devices, but as Compaq SecurePath Disks and each LUN should only show up once in Disk Manager.
Seems like something went wrong during the installation of SecurePath. Strange, because the SecurePath Disk Bus is there. Is it the same on all 4 nodes?
Can you uninstall and reinstall SecurePath?
The problem this will create is that maybe your disks will have different signatures afterwards, which clusters do not like! Cluster disk resources are defined by their disk signature. If the signature is different, the cluster will not bring the resource online. You may need dumpcfg from the windows 2003 resource kit to read the existing signatures and to change them afterwards.

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi Stephen,

Once I uninstalled secure path and reinstalled, Windows displays the secure path disks in device manager, but it is also discovering the msa disks and wants to install the drivers for them on each reboot, thus over writting the Secure path disk (I stopped the install for this)!

Still when I open spm I cannot see anything below the node?

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi Leigh,

huh? That really is strange. What HBA drivers have you installed?
I would guess you have FCA2214 (Qlogic adapters) so get the latest SCSIport driver here:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/fca2214/index.html

Have you installed any other multipathing options like MPIO for the MSA?

Re: Secure Path Manager

No, no other multipath software installed.

I'll try the drivers..

Re: Secure Path Manager

Okay,

Downloaded the drivers, installed, same problem, every time I restart, I have to stop Windows wanting to install loads of disks.

Any more ideas?

Re: Secure Path Manager

Hi Leigh,

I'm running out of ideas. Do you get any error messages in Event Log from RAIDISK.SYS?

Re: Secure Path Manager

No errors at all in the log!!

I've got a "Spare" set of kit sitting here, so I'm going to try a fresh build in the morning on that, just to see what happens.

Will let you know what happens
