SMA Backup Error
Settings->Maintenance->Backup.
It seems the wizard successfully 'connects' to the shared area but the backup process fails. Here is the log content:

Re: SMA Backup Error
i got the same problem and opend a case at hp support. few time later (2 or 3 months) i got a little patch that solves the problem.
seems that the sma could not stop a service...
you find the patch attached.

Re: SMA Backup Error
you must do it because something in the MSDE configuration is changed and that takes effect after reboot!

Re: SMA Backup Error
i even tried rebooting the SMA.. after running the patch on the it.. but it's still not working..(same errror in the Backup Log).
do u have any idea, if it may have any problem stopping the SQL server only.. or any problem with the Backup script C:\Program Files\Compaq\SANworks\OSM\osmbackup.conf
Regards,
piyush.

Re: SMA Backup Error
i would not mess around with the settings... i tried for days and could not find a solution.
open a case at hp support... it will take a while, but you'll get a solution. the sma backup is not sooo urgent, so try it the "official way".

matthias

Re: SMA Backup Error
This is just a shot in the dark, but do you have Storage Operations Manager/Storage Area Manager installed on the appliance? If so, have you registered the services with the SMA?
When the backup is starting, it must first stop all applications that are registered on the appliance. If OVSAM is not there, it might have problems. I don't know if this is related to the SQL error message, as OVSAM uses a different database. But it's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Stephen
