First of all: we are using soft zoning (zone information based on WWN). In environment with servers hpux 11.23
What would happen in the fabric if we change a host fibre from the port 5 of a switch to the port 10, and move the EVA8000 fibres which are in ports 7,8,9,10 of the FC switch to ports 20,21,22,23?
In the servers, change the device files? change the hardware path ?

Re: soft zoning and change eva8000, host the port
Different port = different device files.
In order to change the ports, consider to vgexport the volume groups, change the ports and use vgimport to import your VGs.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Solutiondisk 295 0/0/10/1/0/4/0.11.4.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV210
/dev/dsk/c65t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c65t0d1
The important part is
11.4.0.0.0.1
where
11 = switch domain ID
4 = port (connects the EVA)
1 = LUN 1
In this example the "4" would be changed, hence the system creates new device files.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: soft zoning and change eva8000, host the port
Just for info: modern switches _can_ program their engine to do 'hard zoning', even if the zoning definition uses all WWNs:
FCSW02:admin> portzoneshow
PORT: 0 (0) F-Port Enforcement: HARD WWN defaultHard: 0 IFID: 0x43020000
PORT: 1 (1) F-Port Enforcement: HARD WWN defaultHard: 0 IFID: 0x43020001

Re: soft zoning and change eva8000, host the port
Yes When u change the host fiber cable from port 5 to 10.
And move the fibers in ports of the FC seitch the device file port connect with would be change.
Due to Diffrent Ports will provide diffrent device files.
In this condation before changing the port
Please do the vgexport of all vgs
vgexport -v -p -s -m /tmp/vg01.map vg01
After change the ports do vgimport for your all vgs.
vgimport
Thanks
