I understand that both are Brocade switches. You must check what firmware version each one has.

Then look at the firmware release notes, there's a table specifying with which firmwares it's compatible.

yes they are both Brocades switch
the 4/16 firmnware is 6.2.2a and the 8/24 firmware is 6.3.0c.

I need to know if i need a licence to do it and if i only have to do an ISL beetween both sawitches?

Thanks

Hello,

you not need any license for that. Only if you want to use ISLs between the switches or if you have a long distance connection, then you would need a license.

Keep both switches at the same firwmare level.

ISL (inter-switch link) is just another name for "connection between two switches".

As far as I know if you need to connect the switches together to form one fabric, you will need and ISL. But, and ISL is just a standard fibre cable plugged into the a port on each switch. If I need to create an ISL, I usually connect the least port on one switch to the last port on the other switch. Also make sure that the IP addresses and Domain IDs are different on the switches.

Ok let me resume because PAtrick told:
you not need any license for that. Only if you want to use ISLs between the switches

My question is : can i connect one new edge switch in my core switch ( i imagine i need an ISL for that or let me know if i'm wrong) without using any specific licence?

Thanks

No, ISL/switch-switch connections do not work without a license.
