Switch Zoning how much time it takes ?
I would like to know how much time the Switch zoning takes to update in GNS database. As i need to confirm it from host side after Replacement of failed HBA in the Unix server.
Thanks in Advance.

Re: Switch Zoning how much time it takes ?
zoning changes are very fast. You change your aliases and zones, then save & enable the config. When the config is enabled the changes are immediate. A new HBA on an HP-UX server might not automatically "register" itself on a storage system. When we zone an HP-UX server to a storage system for the first time, we do not "see" the WWN of the HBAs on the storage system until an ioscan is run. Then the WWN appears and we can assign it to a host group on the storage system, present the necessary Logical Units and run ioscan again so that the HBA sees the disks.

Stephen

Re: Switch Zoning how much time it takes ?
If you change the WWN of the new HBA to the old HBA (and you do WWN zoning) then you will not need to make any changes to the zoning. Otherwise you will just have to update the alias's WWN for the port and activate the changes.

Re: Switch Zoning how much time it takes ?
Munish is asking about Name Server registration. As far as I remember from my training at Brocade a few years ago, the NS registration is immediate upon the first RSCN by the HBA attached port and it flows immediately to the rest of the fabric members, unless there is an Fabric rebuild or Fabric reconfiguration is being performed.
So in short, if you can see the HBA is logged in (in brocade switches run #SwitchShow) you can be sure that it is registered in NS database.
