trying to setup a server to boot directly from the HPEVA4000.

I'm trying to setup a server to boot directly from the HPEVA4000.

I have configured the application manager and the fiber switches to allow the new fiber connection .Although when I ever I try to boot from the san the fiber card(QLogic 2200) seems to only Recognize the EVA Controllers not the volumes that I have presented .

Any one have any ideas or suggestions ..

Thanks

Hi Eman,
A bit more information like the platform and the operating system would be useful for people to try & help you.

Re: trying to setup a server to boot directly from the HPEVA4000.

OS is not necessary in this case since the poblem is occuring before any OS loads.

Is the HBA defined on the EVA?

Does the host definition have the right World Wide Port Name assiciated with it?

While in the HBA bios, is the boot lun set? or did you only enable the bios?

Beg to differ about OS.
If it is an Alpha system then you need to know which OS [OpenVMS / Tru64] to set the correct boot parameters.
Not all the world is Windows %*)

I absolutely agree, and do not only work with Windows.

To me, the problem seems to be "before" the OS should even care since the boot process does not see any LUN's at all. Thats all i am saying.

Hi,

1) First of all, you need only 1 path active, not 4, so you must configure zonung
2) HAve you told the HBA from which controller and which unit it should boot?

Okay Guys I figured it out ├в ┬жThanks to all of you for your replies.
All of you had some good insights that helped out very much .

FYI- The problem was with the boot configuration on the HBA .
Once I changed it to boot from one of EVA controllers , it then recognized the LUN that was presented to the HOST .Then I was able to continue with the load of the OS .
