Updating Server with Emulex HBA
I am very unfamiliar with SAN technology, so please pardon my ignorance here.
We have a system that has emulex lightpulse LP952 SCSIport miniport PCI cards that use fiber channel to connect to their shared storage.
I'd like to put the servers (Proliant DL380's) into HP SIM, but I'm afraid the prolaint support pack might somehow update the HBA driver and change some configuration. I know you can set the configs for the drivers in the Version Control Repository Manager, but I do not know what the settings would even be. Any help is appreciated.
thanks

Re: Updating Server with Emulex HBA
If you are worried you should take a snapclone of the disk from the EVA CommandView console before you make the change so you can revert if it breaks anything.

Re: Updating Server with Emulex HBA
This may not make sense, but...
We have 3 servers with HBA's connected to an MSA1500, but it does not have all the SAN software. We do not have command view. It is almost like SCSI attached storage, but with better performance. I didn't architect the system, so I can't really speak to it.

Re: Updating Server with Emulex HBA
Adding a server to HP SIM will not change any driver untill you specifically upgrade it. Even if the driver is upgraded, you can simply downgrade by removing the driver and installing the old driver. The HBA driver has nothing to do with the logical drives / arrays inside the storage.
Another thing is that MSA1500 doesn't have Command View.
