Upgrading EVA3000 to EVA6000/8000
We have an old EVA3000 with 4 shelves filled with 300GB disks. I would like to use the old storage for D2D backups of our vSphere environment. However I will need additional storage.
The current EVA3000 has no vdisks presented on it as all data has been migrated off this storage array. Is it possible to replace the old HSV101 controllers with HSV200 controllers? I am after the a cheap solution I can pick up a pair of used controllers, and want to replace the existing 3000 controllers with either 6000 or 8000 controllers that will allow me to keep the existing disks and enclosures and allow me to add additional enclosures to further expand the backup environment.
Is this possible? Or is it going to be such a big job / costly that is it not really worth pursuing?
Regards
Jeff

Re: Upgrading EVA3000 to EVA6000/8000
Thanks for the responce, i have found the following article from HP:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12408_na/12408_na.html
Can someone advise, apart from the controller pair and the I/O modules on the enclosure, do i need to replace the EMU, need loop switches and replace the cable kit?
EVA8000-A Controller Assembly Pair AD524B
EVA8000-A FC loop Switches (kit includes 4 switches, mounting hardware and cables) AD553B HP
StorageWorks 4Gb Cable Kit (use with FC Loop Switches) AG311A
I/O Module A (1 per disk shelf enclosure) Contact HP Services
I/O Module B (1 per disk shelf enclosure) Contact HP Services
EMU AD625B

Re: Upgrading EVA3000 to EVA6000/8000
If the EMUs are mentioned in the QuickSpecs, you need them as well. The loop switches are only required if you build an EVA8x00/EVA6x00. This means switches are required if you need more than 4 M5314 enclosures attached to HSV200 or you use an HSV210.
