Use LUN space in absence of Command View SDM
Dear Friends,
Can we use LUN storage space (in VA7400 array) to create file systems in a HP9000 machine (rp8400 + HPUX 11i) where Command View SDM is not installed (and hence there is no host agent deamons running locally) ?
We have a SAN as follows : rp8400 (A6795A-Tachyon XL2 HBA) Brocade 2400 Switch VA7400 Array.
It should be noted that - we have installed the CVSDM software in the other rp8400 server under HP-UX 11i from where we can create LUN.
thanks in advance for your resposnse.

Re: Use LUN space in absence of Command View SDM
CommandView is not required to use (read from or write to) the array from a host.
If you have physical connectivity to the VA7400 (both rp8400's are connected to the Brocade), you can share the array with CommandView loaded on only one of the two rp8400's.
The only thing you need to be careful with is the LUN Security - if you don't use it, both servers will see all the LUNs (via ioscan), and have access to all the LUNs. If you do use LUN Security, you just have to be sure to get the WWN's right. See the documentation on Secure Manager or post back here if you have any problems with the setup.
Good luck!
