VA7100 - Migrating SAN hub to SAN switch
Hi everybody,
I have rp5470 cluster and VA7100 connected through 2 SAN Hub. Application is Oracle Parallel 8.
I want to replace 2 SAN Hub with 2 new SAN Switch 2/16V.
The new SAN also have EVA3000 and some HP-UX and Windows severs.
1- Is there any configuration change must be done to SAN Switch / HBA / VA7100
2- How to retake the LUN from VA7100 for Oracle Parallel ? I mean I don't have to restore data. These are the steps I think I should do:
- Run ioscan from two servers. I must see VA7100's LUNs through new SAN Switch.
- Reconfigure volume group, logical volume group from those LUNs.
- Reconfigure cluster file with new hardware path.
- Reconfigure packaged file of cluster
- Apply cluster configuration
- Test application.
Thanks in advance
Hanh

Re: VA7100 - Migrating SAN hub to SAN switch
just be careful, these changes have to be carefully planned. don't just only unplug und plug your va!
- use "vgexport/vgimport", because your HW path will changed,
- think about va secure manager/switch zoning
But all depends on your system configuration / SAN layout. If in doubt, contact HP for consulting.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: VA7100 - Migrating SAN hub to SAN switch
The host ports on the va will have to be set for a port topology of Direct Fabric Attach (4) [I assume it is now some type of loop topology.]
The switches will also have to be zoned to allow the va and host HBAs to see each other.
The HBAs on the servers should auto adjust to the different topologies. If not you'll have to reconfigure them also.
