Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

Hi,
I added two 72,8GB disk to a MSA1000 storage to expand the capacity of a RAID 5 array already created of 5 disk 72,8GB with a unique Virtual Disk of 280GB. HP Support guided me using Array configuration utility selecting "Expand Array". Now the VR display the pool with a capacity of 415 GB (OK) but the online growth wizard doesn't present the new free space available, thus I cannot assign this space to the VD present...
Anyone can Help ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

You need to expand the volume in ACU before the host can see additional space. You might also need to re-scan the disks in the Computer Management MMC or reboot.

Re: Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

Alberto,

I have an MSA1000 w/5 72GB drives in a RAID ADG configuration. I need to expand but am wondering about the syntax of the command.

What was the exact syntax of the EXPAND command you used?

Re: Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

Alberto,

Does the ACU pick up the new expanded drive size correctly. Is it just the OS which is not seeing the drive expansion. Under WIN2K you will need to run the Diskpart util on Resource Kit to expand volume. Windows 2003 natively supports this functionality from the command line. From a cmd prompt type diskpart. At DISKPART> prompt type extend.

Diskpart for WIN2K can be found at:

Re: Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

Alberto, I'll get back to you with some answers...soon :-) must search the virtual replicator documentation. Since you did not phisicaly add any new drives (logical) to the pool, maybe VR is a bit confused. If I understood correctly the pool is showing correctly the space available...(VR storage pool ?)

Re: Virtual Disk on MSA 1000

Hi Alberto

Which version of VR, if your using 3.0B SP1 it wont allow you to expand the logical volume in the array. You should create a new volume and present it to the VR-server.

I'm workin on a workaround for this problem rihgt now, if youre interested let me know.
