can i use GFS2 with 2 node compute?

I don't believe you can - 3 are needed for heartbeat and I don't think it allows you to configure with just 2. That's a GFS2 requirement.
You can have NFS with 2.

GFS2 with 2 Nodes can be used if you have a third VM/host that acts as a Witness. This is referred to as a qdevice and participates as a quorum member. Heartbeat has nothing to do with the limitations. A heartbeat datastore is specific to HA operations and works with 2-Node clusters.
