Memory Usage Alert on 3-Node HA – Guidance on Scaling Beyond 32GB

We are currently running a 3-Node HA Morpheus Enterprise architecture, with each node configured with 32GB of memory. However, we are currently experiencing memory usage alerts across the nodes.

According to the documentation, 32GB is mentioned as the maximum memory per node, and it also states that additional memory and CPU can be added without increasing the node count. However, it is also noted elsewhere in the same document that increasing beyond 32GB is not recommended, and that horizontal scaling (adding more nodes) is the preferred approach for supporting additional workloads.

This conflicting information was unclear, and I would appreciate your guidance on the following:

  • Is it officially supported and safe to increase memory beyond 32GB per node in a 3-Node HA setup?

  • Or should we follow the recommendation and keep the 32GB limit, scaling horizontally by adding additional nodes (e.g., two more with 32GB each)?

We want to ensure we're aligned with best practices and avoid any potential impact on stability or supportability.

Morpheus nodes can be scaled up to a maximum of 32GB of memory. Make sure you run a reconfigure after you make any changes to the size of the VM.

https://docs.morpheusdata.com/en/6.0.3/getting_started/requirements/capacity_planning.html#:~:text=In%20the%20case%20of%20both,possible%2C%20without%20adding%20additional%20nodes.

With a 3-node HA setup, you should be able to support around ~20,000 WLEs, depending on what you are doing with Morpheus. How are you checking the memory consumption? Morpheus reserves what it needs on reconfigure (Java things), so make sure you look at what is actually being used, not what is reserved.

You can find more info in the docs on why items in the health page may go into a warning state here: https://docs.morpheusdata.com/en/latest/administration/health/health.html

The one that jumps out at me is " If swap usage is above 60%" "this indicator will be in a yellow or warning state." I see yours is showing 100%.
