Firewall on "master" node, https port not open on host

Hello All,

I have tried to install HPE VME following the documentation.

I have tested my networiking and all 3 physical nodes for the cluster are reachable thru ssh.

I have installed hp-vme and the associated virtual machine is running on the "main" node.

I can ssh to the virtual machine, but after the installation of hp-vme I am unable to reach the https / web interface to continue.

The error on /var/log/hpe-vm/hpe-vm.log is:

2026-01-15 13:36:34 WARN: Unable to connect to https://x.x.x.x/ping. Trying again in 15 seconds...
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

the HPE Ubuntu OS doesnt contain UFW to open the firewall port.

How can I make sure to open the 443 port on the node to allow 443?

Thanks,

Edgar

I assume you have installed the VM Essentials Manager VM with hpe-vm.

I think you have a network issue.

Double check your network config (sudo netplan get).  Find the iface that has the IP for the HVM host itself.

Remove the Manager VM (sudo virsh undefine VMNAME)

Restart the deployment with hpe-vm.  Make sure to use an IP in the same subnet as the HVM host and make sure to select the same iface.  Make sure to NOT select "use compute VLAN".

This assumes you want the manager in the same subnet as the host.

Re: Firewall on "master" node, https port not open on host

Hello Arnout,

Thanks for answering.

I am blaming the HW where I was attempting the installation, it was a HP DL380 G9 with only 2 CNA ports.

I was able to repeat the installation on a DL380G10 with two cards, each with 2 CNA ports, and then the installation worked without any errors.

Thanks,

Edgar
