HPE VME - Real world Customer experience
Hi,
Alright, real talk: Has anyone actually pulled off the seemingly mythical feat of moving production workloads (you know, the important ones, that pays the bill and not the UAT ones that are provisioned for the interns) from vSphere to VME?
How's life on the other side? HPE, if you've got customer case studies that don't involve mythical creatures or secret government projects, now would be a ideal time to share them with the world.
Some of us are starting to feel like we're in a bad sci-fi movie, desperate to escape VMware's gravitational pull but stuck in the asteroid field of 'uncertainty.'
Thanks,
BN

Re: HPE VME - Real world Customer experience
Who is some of us?
A lot of customers are still exploring and testing VME. It's not a best practice to just install and migrate without proper knowledge and understanding of the product. You don't migrate your workloads on a Friday evening....
Next to that, customers take their time because their other Hypervisor licenses are not expired yet.
I do know a couple of customers in my country eagerly testing and discovering all the possibilities (IPAM, DNS management, Domain join, CloudInit,... to name a few that are delivered out of the box) so they can migrate as soon as possible.
Knowledge about VME is the key to the secret, and will pull you straight out of that asteroid field.
I work at HPE

Re: HPE VME - Real world Customer experience
So, in a nutshell, we are still far away from where we should be with VME.
Our Customers are waiting for an alternative and all they want to see is some assurance.
I hope HPE will have some solid cases studies in the near future to build that confidence as the Customers are fearing that in the process of moving away from the fire (VMware), they may eventually end up running towards another.
