Import VM as image

Import VM as image

I'm trying to make a template out of a VM.

I click on the "Import as image", and a folder gets created with a zip file in it.

In the template, Status is Saving

But nothings happens from here.

The size of the zip file stays at 0KB.

Any idea why?

Re: Import VM as image

Hi Brian,

When the Import as Image workflow creates the directory but the ZIP remains at 0 KB and the template is stuck in Saving, this typically indicates that the export task is not being executed by the Morpheus worker layer.

This behavior is generally not UI-related; it is usually a backend execution failure or a stalled worker process.

Please validate the following:

Worker execution state
Confirm that the Morpheus worker service is running and healthy on the appliance. If the worker process is stopped, hung, or failing, the image conversion job will never start.

Target storage validation
Verify that the image store has write permissions, sufficient available capacity, and no NFS/SMB mount degradation (if external storage is used). A failed mount or read-only condition will result in an empty ZIP artifact.

Backend task logs
Review the following logs:
/var/log/morpheus/morpheus-ui.log
/var/log/morpheus/morpheus-worker.log

Look specifically for image conversion, disk export, or queue execution failures.

Hypervisor state validation (HVM / VM Essentials)
Confirm that host connectivity is healthy, no active snapshot or disk lock conditions exist, and the VM is in a consistent state prior to export. Disk lock or snapshot inconsistencies will prevent disk conversion from initiating.

Disk conversion phase
The export operation performs disk conversion before compression. If disk conversion fails, the ZIP container may be created but never populated, resulting in a 0 KB file.
