Query: Datastore Space Issue Despite Cleanup – Alletra 6000 & Veeam Setup

Hi,

We have two separate volumes configured on our Alletra 6000 — one for vCenter and the other for Veeam backups. When checking at the volume level, usage shows around 40%, but in vCenter, the associated datastore appears nearly full, and Veeam backups are failing as a result.

The volume is mapped to a virtual machine via iSCSI initiator for Veeam. I also adjusted the retention policy from 30 to 14 restore points, and although older backups were cleaned up, the datastore usage remains unchanged.

Can anyone please advise on what might be causing this discrepancy and how to reclaim the space?

Have you tried scsi unmap . it is worked very well if it is VMFS-5 . in VMFS-6 it is worked automaticly . but If it is not reclaimed via auto on VMFS -6 then nimble team need to look what is missing at the nimble storage why it's garbage collector is not worked for the auto  reclaimed for the space

The volume is really full and there is no space to reclaim.

Let me explain in detail

The utilization shows on the host side is correct and the actual usage. Nimble does show the space utilization, after savings from deduplication and compression. 

Space discrepency is a concern only when it's the other way around, which is, host usage less utilization and array is not reflecting it correctly(ie, showing more utilization than host), that is when we will have space to reclaim using unmaps.

But in this case it is completely normal. All you have to do is, increase the volume size on nimble/alletra and expand the file system on host side.
