Free Space Discrepancy between Windows Server 2019 and Nimble Storage Array
Free Space Discrepancy between Windows Server 2019 and Nimble Storage Array.
I have provisioned 5TB volume to Windows Server. In Windows Server Console the Free Space on the Volume is 500GB and on HPE Nimble array console, free space is 2.5 TB.
I have worked on Multi vendor Storage Arrays, including DellEMC Unit,VNX, VNX2, VMAX, Hitachi VSP G1000, G1500, G600,G400, IBM Flash 840, IBM Flash 900. Dell Compallent etc.
EMC VNX2, Unity and Hitachi G1500 or G1000 are supporting block level deduplication and I didn't observe this kind of space discrepency between storage array and windows server.
And have read HPE community article which says, Windows OS is not capable to detect the freespace after the deduplication and compression happening at array level.
Then what is the use of SCSI commands and protocol?
Could someone explain in detail on this topic?

Re: Free Space Discrepancy between Windows Server 2019 and Nimble Storage Array
Hi Rashid
Thank you for coming to the HPE Community forums.
The space reporting varies depending on the NImble OS.
May I request you to share the Nimble OS version?
Regards
Mahesh
