It's possible to create a redundant LUN on Nimble Storage Pool Array?

It's possible to create a redundant LUN on Nimble Storage Pool Array?

My application is using two LUNs provisioned on two HPE Nimble Storage systems, and the application is taking steps to make it a redundant solution.

I recently discovered that Nimble Storage has a feature that creates a Storage Pool Array and I want to know if it's possible to create a redundant LUN that enables failover in case of a storage failure.

Hello,

Yes, you may check more on replication setup, where a single storage array failure can trigger failover to the secondary array. Please check the admin guide in https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00004006en_us&docLocale=en_US

Re: It's possible to create a redundant LUN on Nimble Storage Pool Array?

Thx,
I hope you're all doing well.

I have two HF20 Nimble Storage Arrays running Nimble OS 6.1.2.600.

According the documention, I need to create a pool under group actions, right?.
However, when I click the "Create Pool" button, it says that it's not possible to create a pool without any associated arrays.
I’ve already created a Group that includes both arrays, but the pools are still separate.

Update, I found the option to merge the pool, so I did it.

Hi,

Thanks for the update.

Pool merge is a different concept and does not provide LUN redundancy. The concept involves virtually/logically combining two pools/array to work as one.

You have to plan for replication, either async or syncrep (Peer persistence)

Re: It's possible to create a redundant LUN on Nimble Storage Pool Array?

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I would like to clarify a few questions regarding the configuration of replication partners.

I’ve configured both storage systems to use their management IPs, but when I run a test, something seems to be wrong.
The following message appears:

The storage systems can see each other on the network — I can successfully ping one from the other — but when I try to add them as replication partners, it doesn't work.

I also tried using a separate network where the storage systems can also communicate, but I got a different error message from the first one.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Have you removed the pool merge?  Also, the group name has to match on both the arrays. Please follow the admin guide , if it does not work, please do create a support case, we need to check the logs on array to see why partner connection is failing.
