Nimble sync replication PeerPersistence move volumes in different volume collection

Hi Specialists,

a customer has two Nimble arrays with a working peer persistence sync mirror configuration, but unfornately uses only one volume collection for all replicated volumes. I have to split the single volume collection into two, in order to replicate half of the volumes from Nimble_A to Nimble_B and the other half from Nimble_B to Nimble_A.

This has to be done online, while the vSphrere cluster, using the volumes remains online.

The manuals don`t cover splitting volume collections or removal of volumes from PP Sync volume collections (or at least i haven`t found any information)

Is the way I like to do this correct?

  • as the first volume collection is Nimble_A to Nimble_B, handover to Nimble_B
  • edit the existing volume collection and remove half of the volumes.
  • offline and delete the volumes i removed from the collection on the destination array Nimble_A (is this required, or can the old destination volumes be reused as the destination volumes of the new collection, eventually with quick resync?)
  • creating a second pp sync collection Nimble_B to Nimble_A and add the not replicated volumes to it (the destination volumes on Nimble_A should be created automatically)
  • handover the first volume collection back to Nimble_A.
  • wait until the volumes of the second collection are in sync
  • rescan and check the active / standby paths in vSphere

Thank you in advance.
