ESXi Deployment via OneView for VMware vCenter

Hi all,

deployment of new ESXi-Hosts via ov4vc works when chosing the "Deploy OS" Button within the Plugin.
I'd prefer the "grow cluster" option but when starting the wizard only Server Profile Templates with HW type BL* are shown. Alle SPTs with HW type DL* are not visible.

Any idea?

Thanks and kind regards,

T.

The Grow Cluster feature of OV4VC only supports BL and Synergy with Virtual Connect - it does not support DL rack mount servers.

This is due to the underlying requirement of using HPE OneView Hypervisor Cluster Profiles as the engine behind Grow Cluster, and that OneView feature does not support DLs.  It has to do with the network configuration that gets done via Grow Cluster, which can only be done with Virtual Connect.

Re: Query: ESXi Deployment via OneView for VMware vCenter

Hi Doug,

thank you for your straight forward answer - maybe HPE should put that in any of the dozens of docs I read for OV4VC.

I have one additional question though: Can the OV4VC plugin be automated via vCenter API and/or powershell?

Thank you and kind regards,
T.

There is no API or PowerShell capability to access any of the OV4VC functionality directly.

This primarily due to a limitation from VMware - they don't provide the ability for us to expose any APIs for plugins from within vCenter.  From a security perspective, that probably makes sense.

Essentially all of the information exposed in vCenter via OV4VC is done using the OneView REST API, so you could use that to get the info directly from OneView (OneView also has a PowerShell library).
