HP OneView Alert E-Mails Details URL path using IP and not Domain Name

How can we change the HP OneView Alert email Details link to use the configured DNS name of the appliance rather than the IP address?

Requesting to refer the HP One view user guide, based on the version installed .

Yes, you're correct. The nslookup utility can be used to query DNS records, including MX (Mail Exchange) records, by setting the query type (q) to "MX".

To check MX records for a domain using nslookup, you can indeed use the command:

set q=mx example.com

Replace example.com with the domain name you want to check. This command will query the DNS server for the MX records associated with the specified domain.

As you mentioned, it's important to note that some DNS servers may use round-robin scheduling for load balancing or other purposes. This means that if multiple MX records exist for a domain, the order in which they're returned may vary with each query.

If the DNS server is unreachable or if the MX records are missing for the domain, nslookup will indicate that there was a failure to retrieve the records or to connect to the DNS server.

Re: HP OneView Alert E-Mails Details URL path using IP and not Domain Name

This answer does not seem to apply. I am setting up SMTP manually. The problem is with the Alert email, the details link does not include the FQDN of the OneView Server, only the IP address of the server. I need the details link path to use the FQDN.

Re: HP OneView Alert E-Mails Details URL path using IP and not Domain Name

To ensure that the details link in the alert email includes the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the HPE OneView appliance instead of just the IP address, you'll need to configure the HPE OneView appliance itself to use the FQDN for generating links.
DNS - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00118216en_us&docLocale=en_US&page=s_settings-appnetwk-change-dns-server.html
Network settings : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00118216en_us&page=s_settings-appnetwk-changing-panel-atlas.html

  1. Log in to HPE OneView: Use a web browser to access the HPE OneView web interface.

  2. Navigate to Settings: Locate and click on the "Settings" or "Administration" tab/menu within the HPE OneView interface.

  3. Update Appliance Network Settings: Find the network settings section and specify the hostname or FQDN of the HPE OneView appliance. Update this setting to reflect the desired FQDN.

  4. Check Alerting Configuration: Within the settings or administration section, locate the subsection related to alerting or notifications. Review configuration options for email alerts.

  5. Review Email Alert Template: If applicable, customize the email alert template to include the FQDN instead of the IP address in the details link.

  6. Save Changes: After making adjustments, remember to save the changes within the HPE OneView interface.

  7. Test Email Alerts: Send a test email alert to confirm that the details link now displays the FQDN as expected.

Following these steps and updating the configuration settings in the HPE OneView appliance should ensure that the details link in the alert email includes the FQDN. For further assistance or troubleshooting, refer to the documentation provided by HPE.

To change the HP OneView Alert

To change the HP OneView Alert email Details link to use the configured DNS name instead of the IP address, you need to update the URL path within the email template settings to incorporate the DNS name. This ensures consistency and accessibility across devices and networks, aligning with your organization's naming conventions and network configurations.
