Server / Storage Temperature Monitoring
Hello!
I have a remote datacentre with unreliable air con.
There are various rack mounted temperature sensor options available on the market, however as OneView constantly monitors server temperature, this may provide a cost free option.
I want to set up an alert to email me when server temperature reaches a threshold specified by me.
Is this possible and, if so, exactly how do I do it?
Many thanks.

Re: Server / Storage Temperature Monitoring
Hi @Mike64
Yes, it is possible to set up alerts in HPE OneView to notify you via email when the temperature of a server reaches a threshold specified by you. HPE OneView offers monitoring and alerting capabilities, and temperature-related events can trigger notifications to help you proactively address issue.
Step1: Configure Email Notifications
Before setting up alerts, ensure email notifications are configured in HPE OneView. This allows the system to send out emails when alerts are triggered.
Log in to HPE OneView: Access the HPE OneView web interface using a browser.
Navigate to Settings: In the HPE OneView dashboard, go to Settings > Notification Settings.
Set Up SMTP Server:
- Configure the SMTP server settings to enable OneView to send emails. You'll need:
- The SMTP server address
- SMTP port
- Sender email address
- Authentication credentials (if required by the SMTP server).
- Configure the SMTP server settings to enable OneView to send emails. You'll need:
Test Email Settings: Use the "Test Email" option to verify the configuration by sending a test email to your address.
Step 2: Set Up Alerts for Temperature Monitoring
Once email notifications are configured, you can set up an alert for temperature thresholds.
Set Thresholds in the Server:
- HPE servers managed by OneView already have built-in temperature thresholds. These are defined by the server hardware and firmware. You can view or customize these thresholds in the server's iLO configuration.
- To adjust thresholds, log into the iLO interface of individual servers and configure custom temperature limits.
Enable Alerts in HPE OneView:
- In HPE OneView, the system automatically generates alerts for critical events, including temperature warnings.
- Navigate to Alerts in the OneView dashboard to review the current alert configuration.
Create or Configure an Alert Rule:
- If you want to customize the alert rules (e.g., set specific temperature thresholds or notification recipients), you may need to define the conditions:
- Go to Settings > Alert Management or similar sections in OneView.
- Look for predefined rules related to temperature or server health.
- Customize the conditions for temperature-related alerts to align with your specific threshold.
- If you want to customize the alert rules (e.g., set specific temperature thresholds or notification recipients), you may need to define the conditions:
