Bandwidth Calculation and Line Monitoring for Synchronous Replication Between Alletra MP

Hi everyone,

I have two Alletra MP storage arrays and need to perform a synchronous replication of approximately 40TB from the source to the destination array. The replication configuration is already in place, but I’d like to properly calculate the required bandwidth between both sites before initiating the process.

Could someone guide me on what specific metrics or data I should collect to accurately estimate the necessary bandwidth for this replication?

Also, as I progressively start replication groups, I’d like to monitor the link utilization. How can I ensure that the line is not becoming saturated and determine what margin of bandwidth is still available in real-time?

Any recommendations, tools, or best practices specific to Alletra MP or general replication scenarios would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Bandwidth Calculation and Line Monitoring for Synchronous Replication Between Alletra

Hello,

in general, there is only a latency specification (RCIP 200ms, RCFC 10ms).
The initial sync (Full Sync) is faster the more bandwidth is available.
For subsequent synchronization, the size of the volumes does not matter; it's only the change rate that matters.

Some useful Commands are:
histport -rcfc
statrcopy
statrcvv
histrcvv
