Hi,

1. How long will HPE PRIMERA support the SMI-S protocol?
2. Does HPE PRIMERA use the same firmware as in 3PAR? What are the differences?
3. Can we download a simulator or evaluation edition to test HPE PRIMERA?

Hello ! @Richter666  Hope you are doing well!

1. How long will HPE PRIMERA support the SMI-S protocol?
There is no date mentioned, it is used for collecting storage system performance and configuration data.
All HPE Primera storage systems include internal SMI-S CIM server functionality.

2. Does HPE PRIMERA use the same firmware as in 3PAR? What are the differences?
The firmware is different in HPE Primera and 3PAR.
The latest Firmware in Primera is 4.2.0.
HPE Primera comes with OS 4.X & above. 3par OS will be in 3.3.X series and there is lot of difference in terms of the features


3. Can we download a simulator or evaluation edition to test HPE PRIMERA? Not sure
I am not sure if there are any downloadable Primera simulators, if I find one ill keep you posted.

Primera supports SMI-S protocol and continues to support. There is no data available to discontinue as such.

2. Does HPE PRIMERA use the same firmware as in 3PAR? What are the differences?
Primera and 3PAR look very close on higher level as both have identical features and manageability from SSMC. But they are different in terms of hardware and firmware.
i) HPE Primera has different ASIC that is designed for NVMe and unified cache support.
ii) 3PAR Supports RAID-0,1,5,6. Primera supports only RAID-6.
iii) In 3PAR Service Processor is a separate physical or virtual appliance. But SP is integrated in Primera.
iv) Difference in OS is not only the version. Due to the differences in NVMe support, node architecture and other advanced features Primera uses different InFOrm OS code base than 3PAR.

3. Can we download a simulator or evaluation edition to test HPE PRIMERA?
HPE Primera simulator is NOT publicly available.
