SolutionHi mshendy,
Migrating from an EMC VNX 5400 to an HPE Alletra Storage MP requires careful planning and execution.
Below are the steps to perform the migration:
1. Verify that HPE Alletra Storage MP is compatible with the servers, SAN switches, and applications that are currently part of the infrastructure.
2. Make sure the HPE Alletra satisfies the necessary specifications and network configurations before installing and configuring it.
3. Establish a network connection between HPE Alletra Storage MP and the SAN, and confirm that hosts can access it.
4. As soon as the HPE Alletra storage MP is zoned to the servers and multipathing is configured on the servers, the new storage can be accessed.
5. You can recreate the VNX 5400 layout on HPE Alletra Storage MP by creating the necessary LUNs/Virtual Volumes.
6. To reduce the impact on production, schedule the move during a maintenance window.
7. For virtual environments, you can use VMware Storage vMotion (for migrations), or you can use third-party tools like Dell EMC Open Migrator.
8. Using Storage vMotion, migrate all existing DellEMC VNX VMs to new HPE Alletra Storage MP datastores, and ensure that the new HPE Alletra Storage MP datastores are working as expected.
9. Ensure that the HPE Alletra Storage MP data is intact and accessible, and test the performance and connectivity. Once confirmed, gradually decommission the old DellEMC VNX 5400.
Hope this helps.!
Regards,
Satish
