Question about Alletra MP Chassis Discovery Module

I will have an Alletra Storage MP SAN Storage purchased, this will be a 2U controller chassic only. I can see "HPE Alletra Storage MP CDM Bluetooth Connect Kit" is also purchased, so initialization of the storage system should never need the CDM to connect to the network switch via copper wire? And should I disconnect the Bluetooth Connect Kit after the initialization?

Also, initialization without the Bluetooth Connect Kit will require the CDM CDM to connect to the network switch via copper wire, what should the switch port to be configured? Also the connection can be disconnected after the initialization? Thank you.

I have already put 20 MP Block into operation and have not connected the CDM anywhere.

It is only plugged in so that it does not get lost. But like yours, there are no cluster configurations.

Unfortunately, I have to correct myself. Today (Jan 25), I started up a B10000 (Alletra Block), and for the first time, the BluePrint stopped at 6% and requested the connection of the CDM module (although there are no disk shelves). The setup process seems to have changed.

I have finished a alletra MP course and the instructor said the CDM needs to be connected to the managment network but it is not given an IP address it is needed for internal storage communication. The explanation was not very clear I would like to hear an official HPE comment and explanation on this matter. also do we need to configure the port on the network switch?

Hi giladzzz

The presence of a CDM for every Node/JBOF Chassis with CDMs connected to the NW switch is mandatory in order to make the following features work:
1) Node Expansion
2) Inter-Chassis Rescue
3) Sea Raider Rescue

I would suggest you go through the HPE GreenLake for Block Storage: Maintaining and Upgrading the Hardware document to get more information about it.

Thanks for the information @giladzzz , we've come a bit further.
In the manual you can find the following:

All controller chassis CDMs require an Ethernet connection.
At least one drive chassis CDM per base rack and one drive chassis per expansion rack require an Ethernet connection.

Since @calvinchoi only has the controller chassis, it doesn't make sense at first.
The way in which the communication between the CDMs takes place remains somewhat unclear.
