DL380G4 cannot install iSCSI Feature Pack 2.00

This is an original DL380G4 storage server which I have recently put through the following update cycle:

PSS SR 5.6
2003 Server SP2 throught the 'Service Pack Installer' utility
PSS SR 6.6

The system is NOT upgraded to 2003 Server R2.

This worked fine and the system was up to date. I was under the impression that the iSCSI feature pack would be upgraded also. iSCSI problems were the reason to update the system in the first place.

I found out version 1.52 was still on the system and downloaded version 2.00 and tried to install it.

This was not possible because the installer needed a succesfull install of .net framework 1.1 SP1 which fails because a newer version is already on the system.

I tried installing only the iSCSI target component which succeeded but after a reboot resulted in a BSOD after starting the GUI so Safe Mode and disabling all iSCSI related services was the only way to get the system up again after which I deinstalled the iSCSI feature pack.

Result is that I have a system without iSCSI functionality and am unable to install it.

- not really keen on a rebuild using the restore DVD.
- maybe restore the system partition from backup.
- uninstalling or hacking the framework version doesn't work.
-a collegue of mine is trying to hack the Installshield installer and removing the framework requirement.
