Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

Upon returning from vacation, I noticed that the attention light on my U2 system is on. None of the drives seem to be failing all the cooling fans are running. Everything seems to be just fine. I know that light is trying to tell me something and I don't know what it could be. One thing is for certain: there is almost ZERO information on the net about this model. So, can anyone enlighten me on what this attention light is telling me? Any clues would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

Check for error lights on front and back of the enclosure. usually it means there is something wrong with: psu or disk or fan
Also check the integrated management log in the server for management messages.

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

Leon, thanks for the reply. I checked the lights front and back a second time and only then did I notice that the PSU has a light on... it is green, and therefore I didn't think it was a problem at first(I was expecting to see AMBER). At any rate, it appears the PSU has an issue, although everything is functioning at the moment. Do you happen to know what the green PSU light indicates?

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

The green light means everything is ok. it should be steady on.
If there are no amber lights on devices, check the raid sets with array configuration utility for errors. It is possible that there is a defective error led. Again check the integrated imanagement log viewer or a recent survey for errors.

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

Leon, both lights on the PSU are steady green as well as the light on the fan array. This unit doesn't have the redundant PSU. I considered downing the server, and pulling the drives, blow all the dust bunnies out, clean all contacts and fire it back up... only I am a little apprehensive that it MAY not come back online. This, by the way, is connected to an aging Novell 4.11 server.

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

i.m not that familiar with Novell, but i do know that there is a integrated management log viewer or survey available for Novell. Too bad however, a lot of Novell customers do not install the Compaq utilities and tools....
I don't think pulling the drives will get you any further.
If installed yet, install survey:

or boot the server with the Integrated management log utility:

Good luck,

Re: Proliant Storage System U2 ATTENTION light

Thanks again, Leon! I downloaded the files from the links you provided. I will be installing these and monitoring the situation. I inherited this setup when I took this job almost 6 years ago. The old server and Novell have been so stable, I have simply kept it backed up and online. It is scheduled to be replaced this fall with a new server and O/S, but that is a little ways off yet!
