On the Drivers & Software for HP Smart Array P410i Controller - HPE Support Center download page, besides language, there is an option to choose OS as well.
My intention is just to check firmware versions available and compare them to those currently in use. However, for different OSes, different results show up.
What is the appropriate choice for it? E.g. server I am working on is Ubuntu server, but I see no Ubuntu listed in the dropdown menu.
My output (not complete, obviously) of hpacucli ctrl all show config is:
Smart Array P220i in Slot 0 (Embedded) (sn: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX) logicaldrive 1 (136.7 GB, RAID 1, OK) array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB) physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 146 GB, OK) physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 146 GB, OK) SEP (Vendor ID ....) Smart Array P410i in Slot 3 (sn: 5001438025905868) logicaldrive 1 (4.9 TB, RAID 1+0, OK) array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB) physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 900.1 GB, OK) .... Expander 250 (....) Enclosure SEP (Vendor ID HP, Model ....) SEP (Vendor ID ....)

SolutionLatest firmware for P410i is in fact 6.64
The OS selection is important for drivers, but is just standard for all the downloads.
The firmware for a smart array is always the same for any proliant server and any OS, but the utility to install is different.
Usually any windows version works with windows, and linux version works with linux and with the offline SPP.
There is NO special firmware depending on OS.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Smart Array P410i - choose appropriate OS - firmware download
Firstly, @Torsten. - thanks for your answer. I really appreciate it and it helped.
Indeed, the same latest firmware appears if I choose any of the following as my OS (e.g.):
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server
It confused me that I get different results if I choose OS independent as an option since, as you said, firmware should be the same no matter the OS.
Nonetheless, I have another question. Part of my output of hpacucli ctrl all show config detail is:
Smart Array P410i in Slot 3 Bus Interface: PCI Slot: 3 ... Firmware Version: 6.40 ...
However, if I choose Revision History tab on the link you have shared, I see no 6.40 listed. Why does this occur? It means not all of them are listed or?
Thanks again a lot for your help.
Looking forward to see you answer.

Re: Smart Array P410i - choose appropriate OS - firmware download
There are 2 possible reasons.
1) Due to the move from hp.com to hpe.com some old versions disappeared.
2) this version was bad (google for "c04325462")
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Smart Array P410i - choose appropriate OS - firmware download
Thanks @Torsten. once again.
Just, I would like to clarify this one as well (again, part of my hpacucli ctrl all show config detail):
Smart Array P220i in Slot 0 (Embedded) Bus Interface: PCI Slot: 0 RAID 6 (ADG) Status: Enabled Controller Status: OK Hardware Revision: B Firmware Version: 5.42 ... physicaldrive 1I:1:1 Port: 1I Box: 1 Bay: 1 Status: OK Drive Type: Data Drive Interface Type: SAS Size: 146 GB Rotational Speed: 15000 Firmware Revision: HPDD Model: HP EH0146FARWD ... Smart Array P410i in Slot 3 Bus Interface: PCI Slot: 3 RAID 6 (ADG) Status: Disabled Controller Status: OK Hardware Revision: C Firmware Version: 6.40 ... physicaldrive 1I:1:1 Port: 1I Box: 1 Bay: 1 Status: OK Drive Type: Data Drive Interface Type: SAS Size: 900.1 GB Rotational Speed: 10500 Firmware Revision: HPD5 Model: HP EG0900FCVBL ...
From the above:
- I have two controllers: P220i (embedded) and P410i?
- Each of the physical drives has firmware revision which can also be updated since I have them listed under Firmware - SAS Storage Disk?
What is the difference between Firmware revision and version? I can update firmware version for the controller and firmware revision for each of the disks?

Re: Smart Array P410i - choose appropriate OS - firmware download
Consider this all as firmware versions.
You can either lookup each disk model at www.hpe.com/support or you get the current SPP and run it / boot it.
