SmartStart for my system?
Hi,
I've got a Storage System U2 connected to a Smart-2P controller housed inside a DeskPro PC.
I'd like to use SmartStart on the system, particularly to configure the array, and have Release 5.50. However, when I try to boot from the CD I get a message telling me that the "software is not supported on this system".
Is there a version of SmartStart that will run on this system? Or do I need to stick to ACU v1.20 run from floppies?
Thanks,
R.

Re: SmartStart for my system?
Hello;
Good question! You inspired us to try it out here!
I'm presuming you already have some sort of Windows OS installed on the DeskPro.
We used a DeskPro running win2k.
The driver for the Smart2 controller loads automatically as it is native to win2k.
Then we used the SmartStart 5.50 cd to install the Array Configuration Utility in Windows which allowed us to configure the array.
Hope that helps!
Janine

Re: SmartStart for my system?
Hi,
Thanks for checking this out, and sorry for the delay in replying - the notification system must have failed!
Actually, I'm building a Linux system and would like to boot from a CD to configure the array.
I'm currently using ACU 1.20b booting up from floppies but this is a bit of a pain and I'm having problems with it at the moment. Specifically, I want to erase all drive information both logical and physical and start configuration again. I've tried using the Compaq System Eraser (1.69?) but it won't delete logical drive information because the drive is incomplete (??), i.e. disks have failed since the last good configuration.
The other thing is, I don't really want to have a win2k partition on the array - I'd like to keep it all dedicated to Linux. Is there no way to boot from a SmartStart CD to configure this setup?
