How do you Upgrade your Hosts with the current SVTSPGenX ISOs?

Hello Folks,

i was wondering how do you apply the SVTSPGen Upgrades on your Simplivity Hosts? Maybe there is a smarter way which i dont know yet.

For me it is always a very unthankful task and it annoys me very much, every time a new version comes out. Usually I am shutting down the OVC on the host, setting the host in maintenance mode, and booting the ISO via iLO. But transfer rates of iLO are poor, and booting the ISO needs a lot of time too. The inventory process, applying the patches, and several reboots also takes a lot of time. If the Host is back online, OVC needs to sync, migrating VMs again, till you can start the game again for the next host.

After 6 years beeing a Simplvity User, i am really wondering why there is no smarter and faster way to apply these patches. On Nutanix e.g. you can do this directly in Prism, and automatically one host after another.

We also tried HPE SUM but this is also very frustrating and extremely time-consuming and not really helpful.

Hi,

There is a way to fully automate the firmware upgrade or any other SimpliVity federation related upgrade via the upgrade manager. However, for the full automation, DRS will be needed on the cluster, else one can manually vacate the nodes and the upgrade manager will do the rest. One thing to note is that the iso transmission time will depend on the network bandwidth while a firmware upgrade taken approx 1 hour per server. Upgrade manager can upgrade nodes on an individual level, cluster level or federation level.

You will fine SimpliVity Upgrade Manager exe file inside the OmniStack upgrade package which can be downloaded from My HPE Software Center.
