Infosight and HPE SimpliVity
Hi all,
I am somehow confused regarding the interpretation of Infosight with HPE SimpliVity and corresponding welness of SimpliVity and Monitoring Status/Support of the Severs.
As you know with Infosight selecting Servers pop ups the HPE Servers context, and HPE SimpliVity pop ups to the HPE SimpliVity context of InfoSight.
When selecting SimpliVity you can find Monitoring Status/Support within the HPE SimpliVity hosts. Selecting the Monitoring Status/Support view you can determine the telemetry and the heartbeat of the virtual controllers. These are communicating with the midway servers or call it the backend of HPE. Having all checkboxes green in this view is good to go.
On the other part of the Servers context, you notice an operational dashboard that defines two monitoring services in the connectivity tile : heartbeat and call home. Quite often the states are degraded. Zooming in on the Serves, Server List you can select Monitoring Services that in this case refers to Stale Heartbeat Data and Stale Health Log data.
I find it difficult to troubleshoot if this is HPE ProLiant related or HPE SimpliVity related. Looking to the Servers context it looks like it is HPE ProLiant related. We reviewed the documentation regarding firewall requirements. Aside from contacting HPE, what is the best approach to troubleshoot this behaviour ?

Hello,
I understand your confusion regarding HPE InfoSight and HPE SimpliVity monitoring. LetтАЩs break down the different aspects and troubleshoot the behavior:
HPE InfoSight for HPE SimpliVity:
HPE InfoSight provides insights into your HPE SimpliVity infrastructure.
When selecting тАЬSimpliVity,тАЭ youтАЩre in the HPE SimpliVity context within InfoSight.
Here, you can view telemetry and the heartbeat of virtual controllers.
Monitoring Status/Support:
Within HPE SimpliVity hosts, you find the тАЬMonitoring Status/SupportтАЭ view.
This view shows the health of virtual controllers communicating with the backend (midway servers).
Having all checkboxes green indicates a healthy state.
Servers Context and Monitoring Services:
In the Servers context, you see an operational dashboard.
The connectivity tile defines two monitoring services: тАЬheartbeatтАЭ and тАЬcall home.тАЭ
Sometimes, these states are degraded.
Zooming in on the Server List, you can select тАЬMonitoring ServicesтАЭ to investigate issues like тАЬStale Heartbeat DataтАЭ and тАЬStale Health Log Data.тАЭ
Troubleshooting Approach:
Given the complexity, consider the following steps:
Review Documentation: Double-check firewall requirements and ensure everything aligns with the documentation.
Contact HPE Support: While youтАЩve already considered this, reaching out to HPE support is the best approach.
Analyze Logs: Dive deeper into logs and diagnostics to pinpoint the root cause.
Collaborate with Colleagues: Discuss with colleagues who have experience with HPE SimpliVity and InfoSight.
Hope this will help you.
Best regards,
thomas945

Re: Infosight and HPE SimpliVity
Hi Thomas,
thanks for your reply, we reviewed all possible scenario's and decided to Clear Server Data and give it a try to wait for 1 week. Now all servers are reporting correctly again however we see a glitch with the reports tab of the wellness of HPE ProLiant Servers. They are now flagged as unsupported, while we use the latest bundles adviced by SimpliVity. With the next firmware release I will check if this has been solved, while there were some deployment and upgrade issues (also experienced this) regarding the latest version.

Re: Infosight and HPE SimpliVity
Hello @Convergo,
The HPE InfoSight for SimpliVity Host Summary view displays basic details for all hosts in the federation. You can enable Host monitoring and enter iLO configuration details (software 4.1.2 and newer only). HPE InfoSight for SimpliVity can monitor heartbeat and disk failures for the Simplivity hosts only. The Servers context may not show properly the info for Simplivity Servers as we haven't implemented any functionality for that. I'm including a few links for reference:

Hope it helps.
