Rapid dr recover vm
I have a question.
Backup is being done through backpolicy.
When we do rapid dr recovery, do we use backed up snapshots?
However, if the original VM is damaged, is it possible to recover from another VCENTET using RAPID DR?
If the original VM is damaged, isn't recovery through SNAPSHOT impossible?

Re: Rapid dr recover vm
Hi @mblee
RapidDR utilize backups to restore the VM at DR stie during outage using Recovery plan.
Backup must exist at Remote/DR site of down/damaged VM. If vm backups are available, RapidDR utilize those backups to recover the VM and it can be restored on different Vcenter.
Simplivity doesn't take snapshot like VMware however it uses it own technology to take full back of VM and use the full backup while restoring the VM.
Here is the RapidDR user guide.

Here are couple of videos how to create and execute the plan .

Re: Rapid dr recover vm
Hi @mblee
Even though HPE SimpliVity supports VMware snapshots, they are not suitable for RapidDR due to their limitations for disaster recovery.
Snapshots are point-in copies of a VM's data. They are used for quick rollbacks to a previous state, but they are not backups & shouldn't be relied on for a recovery plan.
RapidDR is designed to work with SimpliVity's built-in backup system. Backups create complete and independent copies of your VM data for DR including configuration details just beyond data.
For more information on HPE SimpliVity RapidDR, please visit the HPE support site where you may find documents & videos related to it:

Hope this helps.

Sanika.
