Hi guys,
I have the following simplivity scenario.
I have lost the vCenter that was host to my Simplivity cluster due to a botched upgrade.
To restore normal operations I have rebuilt a fresh vCenter and have added all the Simplivity hosts and joined the OVCs back to the new vCenter.
My question is .. what of the Simplivity federation that the hosts were joined to?
Does it get automatically rebuilt by deploying the vCenter plugin?

Re: Scenario where a Vcenter hosting a Simplivit federation is lost
Hello @AleksandarPeev,
The federation doesn't change when you build a new vCenter and point the OVCs to it. When you say that you joined the OVCs to the new vCenter does that mean that you ran the 'dsv-update-vcenter' command on them? That would be a requirement so the federation can talk to the new vCenter server.

Re: Scenario where a Vcenter hosting a Simplivit federation is lost
Hello,
Yes I used the dsv-vcenter-update to move the OVCs to the new vCenter.
My question would be:
If I now create a new VM in the Simplivity cluster would that be reflected in the svt-federation-show and the svt-vm-show?
I.E. Is the federation somehow recreated in relation to the new vCenter, and if not what can be done?
Is there a way to perform a recovery from the data stored in the OVCs?
Should a new federation be created?

The federation is not recreated at all. The same configuration still exists and any new VM will be added to the federation as normal. Are you experiencing issues seeing your previous VMs?

The issue is that the vCenter plug in does not see the federation that it is supposed manage.

What do you mean by that? Are the host not getting Simplivity actions? is the pluging not reporting capacity? Can you provide some examples? Also, did you run the dsv-update-vcenter on every OmniStack controller with IP of vCenter server?

Hi,
Yes t did run it on both OVCs and the dsv-vcenter-show does show the correct vcenter ip address.
The federation does not show up under the managed ressources in the vcenter plugin.

SolutionConnect to one of the omnistack controllers and run the command "svt-federation-show". Also, provide a screenshot of the hosts and clusters view in vCenter. Right click on one of the Simplivity nodes and make sure you are getting the "All Simplivity Actions" menu.
