SimpliVity 5.3.1 upgrade

Hi

I just want to make sure that if I am just upgrading the OVCs of a 2 node cluster to 5.3.1 and not updating ESXi, then I don't need ti migrate any virtual machines as I don't have DRS licensed on the cluster. I'll be using upgrade manager for just the OVC software.

thanks

Re: SimpliVity 5.3.1 upgrade

Hello @CadenLange

You are correct. If you are upgrading only the OmniStack Virtual Controllers (OVCs) to version 5.3.1 using Upgrade Manager, and not upgrading ESXi, then
VM migration is not required. Since DRS is not licensed, there is no automated VM migration to worry about.
The OVC upgrade process is designed to be non-disruptive to running virtual machines. During the upgrade, the OVC services are updated sequentially, and the workload is shifted to ensure availability and minimal downtime.
Upgrade Manager handles the OVC software upgrade systematically, ensuring the cluster remains functional during the process. It takes care of stopping and restarting the OVC services as needed.

Hope this helps.

Sanika.
