Simplivty ESXi Host Failure - vSphere HA delay

Hello,

I’ve a question about Simplivity Host failures.

In case of a ESXi host failure, which also means that one OVC fails, we are experiencing a delay until vSphere HA reboots the failed VMs on the other host.

The duration until vSphere HA reboots a VM is about 1 minute and about 5 minutes when the affected ESXI hosts also hosts the vCenter Server VM.

vSphere HA failovers on other environments only takes about 10-15 seconds.

Is this an expected behavior on Simplivity Systems?

Best Regards

Georg

Re: Simplivty ESXi Host Failure - vSphere HA delay

Hi Gbrunner,
Good day.
I would usually look into the settings of the vSphere HA where one can setup the config based on the Host isolations and so on.
Some reading here on the link below actually talks about prioritizing the important VMs.
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.avail.doc/GUID-FA8B166D-A5F5-47D3-840E-68996507A95B.html

I would look after the settings on the vSphere HA once, just to be sure that they are properly configured. If the settings are configured accordingly, then I would suggest you reach out to the Broadcom/Vmware team since they can further help you in setting up the information as every other environment would need to have a specific setting that needs to be setup.

Hello @gbrunner

Some possibilities that come to mind here may be related to resources needed by VCSA VM to function properly delaying HA process, HA process relaying on that VCSA to determine which VMs to restart on which host... there could be many other factors to consider. I agree and consider important to check those settings and/or reach out to Broadcom support.
