The right path to upgrade ESX node
Hello,
I tryed to patch esx host to mitigate SLP vulnerability with customised ofline bundle:
Q8A57-11122_hpe-esxi6.7u3p05-17700523-670.U3.10.7.0.132-offline-bundle.zip
and with ISO
VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-19195723-HPE-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.9.0.8-Apr2022.iso
And every time i had the folwing error:
The pending transaction requires 243 MB free space, however the maximum supported size is 239 MB
The curent version is 6.7 u1
It impossible for the moment to make an ESXi update.
The only way that i see, is the redeploiment of Simplivity node with new version of ESX and Omnistack. Is this correct?

Re: The right path to upgrade ESX node
Hello @Major88
Could you post the procedure or command you are using to upgrade? I don't think you need to redeploy for this.

Re: The right path to upgrade ESX node
Seems to be right, based on https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/81302
What are your current versions of OVC / ESXi and what versions are you trying to go to?

Re: The right path to upgrade ESX node
The vCenter server is a Windows server: v. 6.7.0 build 19299562 (patched recently)
2 Omnistack 4.1.0.266
2 ESXi Servers: VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 13644319
For the ESXi servers i want to update to 6.7u3 version.
No Omnistack update planned for the moment. I need just update the ESXi hosts.
I can't upgrade ESXi to v7.0 because the vCenter is 6.7 version.
The current cluster is a VDI Horizon platforme and for the moment i can't upgrade to vcenter to 7.0 version.

Re: The right path to upgrade ESX node
Have you tried installing the base version of ESXi 6.7 U3 first and then go with the patch? Perhaps you are doing too big of jump. Try going with Q8A57-11082_hpe-esxi6.7u3-14320388-670.U3.10.4.5.19-offline-bundle.zip first.

Re: The right path to upgrade ESX node
gustenar,
ok, I will try this option.
But i tested in my lab, the folowing solution:
- Backup the configuration of the ESX
- reinstall esx with preservation of vmfs datastore and then update to the same build that original esx (no ISO with the buid of original ESX)
- restore configuration
- After configuration retore, the ESX host rebooted normaly and was visible by vcenter with all configuration (vswitch, local VMs, root password, certificates, etc).
- upgrade to lastest build of 6.7
This solution has no problem with bootbank size.
Just i need to find a time for test it in production
