Wait for Storage HA compliance

Hi,

We have upgraded OVC's to ver. 5, migrated cluster to new vCenter, all seems to be OK, VM's are in HA, however one host is showing: "Wait for Storage HA compliance" task and it's just hanging there, never completes.

OVC have been rebooted several times, host rebooted, vCenter rebooted.

Anyone any idea?

Thank you

Goran

Re: Wait for Storage HA compliance

Hi Goran,

This appears to be a stuck task issue with the vCenter given the OVC has been rebooted afterwards.

I'd suggest following the procedure to terminate stuck tasks in the vCenter and have a check if this task is appearing in the list, if so, please cancel it.

Moreover, in the OVC of the node experiencing the issue, please SSH to the OVC and elevate to root:

sudo su

source /var/tmp/build/bin/appsetup

dsv-tasks-get-active --scope 0

If the storage HA task is appearing in this list then you may cancel the task using command:
svt-task-cancel --task <task id>

Re: Wait for Storage HA compliance

Running command dsv-tasks-get-active --scope 0 shows one task

dsv-tasks-get-active --scope 0
.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
| Active Tasks
|
+----------------------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+----------------------------+----------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+
| Type | Id | Dest Name | Start Time | Owner | Destination | Parent Task Id |
+----------------------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+----------------------------+----------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+
| com.simplivity.task.node.refreshstorageclientaddrs | 2036c8a2-c96f-4b0e-ad8f-5763b1e781da | OmniStackVC-10-163-238-210 | 2024-May-21 05:56:51 | 4235607e-08b5-9433-d630-f5e533db5c8a | 4235607e-08b5-9433-d630-f5e533db5c8a | 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 |
'----------------------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+----------------------------+----------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+--------------------------------------'

But canceling task results in error 100: Task cannot be canceled.

svt-task-cancel --task 2036c8a2-c96f-4b0e-ad8f-5763b1e781da
..ERROR [100]: Task cannot be canceled.

Re: Wait for Storage HA compliance

Hi,
Thank you for sharing the output. Could you replace 0 with 2 and run the command once again? That should populate all running tasks in the federation.

Moreover, did you have a check on vCenter hung tasks?

Re: Wait for Storage HA compliance

You can take a look at Broadcom's KB to get details of all tasks on ESXi level:
https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/314602/collecting-information-about-tasks-in-vm.html

However I'd recommend you to open a case either with Broadcom or HPE to resolve this.
