SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

The SN1610Q 32Gb stopped working after upgrading to firmware version 2.10. I tried downgrading to 2.9, but it still doesn’t work. Do you have any workaround?

Re: Query: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Hi @BPSingh

One of my customers is having the same issue that after running the SPP 2024.09 / HBA version 2.10 both SN1610Q HBAs stopped working. This happened on 2 servers. In iLO the status is unkown and all 3 LEDs in the back of the adapter are light up in green. There is no connection to the storage.

We have tried downgrading the HBA firmware and also upgrading to the newest system ROM with no success.

HPE support has told me to replace the total of 4 HBAs now but I'm still waiting for the parts since they are not in stock.

Would there be anything else I should try?

Thanks and kind regards

Younes

Please follow the steps that I outlined above, they should help resolve the issue without needing to replace the cards.

Re: Query: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

The downgrade was done with your instructions. The HBAs are now running version version 2.09.07 again but there is no change. HBAs are still unkown in iLO and the storage still has no connection/ports show up as offline in vmware.

Re: Query: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Hello,

Yesterday I was facing the same issue after installation of the SPP 2024.09.00.

After multiple manipulations I was able to recover the card:

- downgrad firmware to version 2.05 with the ILO

- shutdwon the server and remove the power cord during 1 minutes

- upgrade the firmware to version 2.08 with the ILO

- Change the BIOS settings into the FC card (Point to loop and after back to the default value)

- after the card is back online into the VMware

- upgrade to version 2.09 successfully (with the ILO) and the FC card still working

Re: Query: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

@FrancoisLaurent
Hi.
Which setting did you change in the BIOS? Do you remeber exactly where it was and what it was called? i only checked with 2..10 so far but i cant find any thing called point to loop. There was a setting with loop only, point to point and loop prefered, revert to point to point (i think it was something like that. It was the default option anyway)

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

@BPSingh
Hi!
I tried using your guide and updated first to 2.08 and that worked and the ports are online. I later tried updating the host the same way to 2.10 and they are still online. On another host we had the same issue with we tried your way and just used 2.10 and that worked to.

Can we trust 2.10 firmware or are HPE working on a replacement? any advisory published?

Best Regards

@Cederberg

HPE is investigating on this issue until then you can continue to use 2..10.

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Thank you, that worked for me.

The important point is, to do the update via BIOS/ Embedded Applications (as you described) not via SPP or ILO

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

I have the same issue. After updating HPE SN1610Q 32Gb 1p FC HBA from 2.09.07 to 02.10.00, the adapter is no longer working.

Re: Query: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

I have tried playing around with different firmware versions but with no success (I tried the installation both via BIOS or via iLO). We ultimately replaced the HBAs and this solved the issue for now. We left the new HBAs on version 2.09.07 and the server is stable again.

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

The same issue occurred for me. After updating to version 2.10, both HPE SN1610Q 32Gb 1p FC HBAs went down. I downgraded to version 2.5.3 from the BIOS, then upgraded to version 2.9.7 from iLO. It is now working. I would like to know is this a firmware bug, or is it a faulty card? Is there any update from HPE?

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Trying to follow these until I extraceted the files and ther eare 2 .bin files.

bk020205.bin

mh020907.bin

Can't determine which one is the correct one.

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

If your target was version 02.09.07 you would pick and download  cp058498.exe then extract ALL the files to be used in the UEFI HBA Bios FW update.  The target bin file will be mh020907.bin

Or  for FW 2.10  download  cp059848.exe and extract all the files. Note the bin needed is mh021000.bin

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Hi @BPSingh ,

We also upgraded to 2.10 and now our hba card (SN1610Q 32Gb 2p) dont work.
We have tried downgrading to 2.7, 2.8 but still no luck.
We tried following your guide and mounted an virtual directory, selecting the bin file (mh021000.bin) but then it says "error, incorrect firmware file or no supprted device."

Do you have any fix for this issue, any new firmware?

I saw that someone downgraded to 2.5 and then up to 2.10, i cannot find that version. Were can i download that?

Please help!

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Reflash of the same version worked for me, I did it this way

Download the Fiber Card firmware file and signature files from HPE site or from the existing SPP iso
cp059848.exe
cp059848.compsig

Login to the ILO:
Click Firmware & OS Software
On the right side, click Upload to Ilo Repository
Check Mark the "I have a component signature file"
Click browse under local file and select cp059848.exe
Click browse under local signature file and select cp059848.compsig
Click Add to Queue and select the Fiber Card
Under the Install Queue, you should see it as pending

Power Cycle the server, watch Install queue and see that is changes from pending ( i think it goes to installing and then complete)  and it should reflash the fiber card

After that windows 2019 was able to login the SAN and see the disks

Personally, I think the firmware process on the newer G10 and G11 is very flakey, compared to the older generations load the SPP and done in one reboot, now there are mutliple reboots, takes much longer as well.

--------------------------------------------------

NOTE to BPSingh, Thank you for your suggestion however I could not get step 7 to work, I had the .bin file in a folder and mounts a filer to the ILO via html5 and not .NET ( cant get .net working)
But your idea to reflash prompted me to do the step I did above and it worked for me, hopefully it helps others

Please follow the below steps.
1. Download the .exe file for the desired firmware version. Windows based smart OS online update version. (Link is below)
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_f156552615d347c79309daa992&swCollectionId=MTX-635ad6621b8d4c52
2. Extract the .exe file. (Option in the smart component)
3. Place the Files on the USB and Mount it to the server or Use iLO GUI .NET Console to mount the Folder containing the required files.
(Mount folder ILO option or use USB)
4. Boot the server to BIOS using F9 at POST Screen.
5. Select Embedded Applications.
6. Select Firmware Update.
7. Select the SN1610q Controller & Select the .bin Firmware File

Re: SN1610Q 32Gb 2p with firmware 2.10

Connected just to say thanks to ca614. Your suggestion to use iLO Installation Queue (cp059848.exe, cp059848.compsig) helped to recover our server without replacing HBA.
